2000 Koku Crab vs. Unicorn battle
"Maatan-sama... My ancestor" I startled from my meditation at someone speaking to me to see the heavily wrapped phoenix shugenja. His taint was getting worse, and even the Yojimbo in the room eyed him warily. What suprised me more where the samurai who accompanied him. directly behind him was a Kitsu.... A Kitsu Sodan-Senzo. His face was blistered and his hair was as white as any Crane. I had seen this before, he too had the mark of Fu Leng upon him. It amused me to see him and so many Lion in the room, but they have always venerated their ancestors, so the attention of the Sodan-Senzo was no suprise. What was a suprise was the Crab samurai behind him. An ancient, scowling Tsukai-sugasi. "Have you come to send me once more to Jigoku witch hunter?" I said mockingly. "I am of your line, Maatan san, and I have come to see that you are returned to the spirit world with honour and..." "He will take his place among the heavens soon enough samurai" interrupted the phoenix, but first you must complete your duty here. The Lion produced another fine, small, cherrywood box from his Kimono. As he did this, the unknown Kanji on the floor swirled about, and blood dripped from the walls. The old witch hunter grasped his Katana... "Matte Kudasai!!!" The Kitsu screamed as the backlash of memories flooded me... Dizzy from the vision, a new memory came into view, and in moments I was transported to another scene in my unknown memory... My... My name.... My name is Kagoya... A simple Ashigaru recruited from the Iron mines of the Crab. There was once 20 of us, gathering wood for the samurai of the army. It was late dusk and we where on our way back from the sparse forest, when we saw the Unicorn raiding party. Fifteen Ashigaru where slain, the remainder made it to the rear of the encampment "A raid! A raid! The Unicorn are attacking!" I shouted... The others with me fled in terror, rounding a corner, until they all slammed into a massive armoured form. The form glowered at them... It was none other than the Daimyo of the Crab himself... The Great Bear... Hida Kisada. "Kirisute Gomen" he bellowed as he cut them all down in a single stroke. Behind him stood the heir to the Crab... "Yakomo-tono". More fearsome still, was the creature lurking in the distance... The evil creature with my lord's name. I do not care if he is on our side or not, it still frightens me. I dropped to my knee's and supplicated myself in their august presence. They did not bother with me, but rather called what men they could to action and placed themselves in a ravine. Kisada-tono drew a line in the dirt before what men made it to action, and simply said... "Here is our wall, defend it like you would any other!" he then chuckled to himself. "Here we shall make you suffer for Beidan Pass." The Unicorn forces soon arrived, and Ronin shugenja began to throw magic balls of flame at the stoic Hiruma, but to no avail... The battle had begun

Turn 3 Unicorn Hand of fate.... Turn proceeds without incident
Turn 4 Crab Hand of fate Special Action phase: Otaku Tetsuko plays Empire in Flames, as well as Stout heart on her Heavy Lancers. Oni no Yakomo plays Empire in Flames. Primary Movement Phase: Otaku
Tetsuko's Heavy Lancers plays charge and engages Oni no Yakomo. The Moto
Chargers charge Hida Kisada and Ranged Attacks: Tokei casts Fury of Osano Wo on the Hiruma Medium Elite. 2 hits for 13 damage. 1 Hiruma dies Hand to Hand Combat: Tetsuko's Heavy Lancers hit the Oni no Yakamo 3 times for 18 damage. Wounding it once. The Oni no Yakamo hits 2 times for 45 Damage. Slaughtering 4 Unicorn Samurai. The Moto Chargers attack the Heavy Infantry, hitting once for 2 damage. Kisada's Heavy Infantry hits 5 times for 47 damage. Killing 4 Moto. Tetsuko's Unit is forced to make a moral check, and fails. She spends 3 Void however and makes the moral test the second time. I do not think I will ever forget that sound, the sound of the Unicorn Cavalry screaming in blood lusting hatred, as the Oni replied in its own gutteral roar of spite. It was like the sea hitting a rock that was the Oni, and spraying horse and Unicorn blood in place of water, as the creature cut down four Unicorn snd steed in a single, arching blow. The Unicorn Charge was equally ineffective against the great bear, who killed many gaijin himself, as they charged into their deaths.
Turn 5 Unicorn Hand of Fate
Special Actions Phase: Morito Tokei casts biting steel on Otaku Tetsuko. Oni no Yakomo plays test of might on Otaku Tetsuko, Tetsuko plays another time. Primary Movement: Heavy Lancers
charge the Hiruma Medium elites. The Medium elites plays wall of spears. Hand to Hand Combat: Hida Kisada's Heavy Infantry hits the Moto Chargers 11 times for 90 damage, destroying the entire unit. The Chargers respond by hitting only once for 3 damage. No wounds. Otaku Tetsuko's Heavy Lancers hit 5 times for for 30 damage. the Oni takes 3 wounds. The Oni no Yakomo hits 1 time for 17 damage. One Heavy Lancer dies. Hida Yakomo's Medium Elite hits 4 times for 38 damage. 3 Heavy Lancers die. The Heavy Lancers hit 1 time for 2 damage. No wounds. Otaku Tetsuko makes a moral test and fails. She spends 3 Void to reroll and passes the test. The Oni no Yakomo makes a moral test but plays Grim determination. I saw the Great Bear rear foward and strike one of the Unicorn steeds with his bare hands. Knocking the great horse to the ground, and skewering the samurai who fell to the ground. Following the lead of the great Daimyo, the Crab Infantry slaughtered the Unicorn to the man. The Oni fared a little worse, as the Unicorn surrounded it, raining blow upon blow on the fearsome creature. I watched the heir of the Crab calmly have his unit plant their Yari into the ground as the Unicorn charged into their midst, impaling many before they had a chance to stike themselves despite the length of our enemies Umayari.
Turn 5 Crab Hand of fate Special Actions: Broken ground played on the Moto Chargers. Bridge of sand played on Otaku Tetsuko. Morito Tokei casts biting steel on Otaku Tetsuko, Morito Tokei (2) casts Strength of the Earth on Otaku Tetsuko.
Cavalry Movement: Wardogs charge the Crab heavy infantry.
HTH Phase: The Heavy Lancers hit hit the Hiruma medium elites 6 times for 33 damage. 3 Hiruma die. The Hiruma medium elites hit the Heavy lancers 5 times for 37 damage, killing 3 Unicorn. Otaku Testsuko's Heavy Lancers attack the Oni , hitting 4 times for 22 damage, causing 2 wounds. Oni no Yakamo hits once for 19 points of damage, killing 1 Unicorn. Hida Kisada and Heavy elite hit the Moto 3 times, for 27 damage, killing 2. The Ki Rin war dogs in turn, strike the Heavy Infantry 3 times for 15 damage.

I sat in
the center of the circle, I have been awake for what I think is days... I guess the
dead need no sleep. I wonder if I am tainted by Fu Leng. I do not feel any
different, except perhaps that I never seem to fatigue or need to eat or drink. I
have meditated for many hours, the "droning monks", as I have come to know them,
seem to help the process. They do not communicate with me at all, and seem to be
content in their chants rather than speak with me. So I have turned to meditation,
and remember what I can of the Tao.
